How do I connect my AI Tool?

Mass Dynamics runs a hosted MCP server. Connecting lets the AI tool you already use work on your data in Mass Dynamics - uploading, building datasets, running analyses - in plain language, with the same validation and the same record as everything else you do in Mass Dynamics.

There is nothing to install and no API key to manage.

What you need

  • A Mass Dynamics account.
  • An AI tool that lets you add a custom MCP server by URL.

That is all. Everything else happens inside the AI tool.

Connect in three steps
  1. Add the server. In your AI tool's connector or plugin settings, add the URL above. The exact wording varies by tool.
  2. Sign in. If it asks how to authorize, choose OAuth. You sign in with your normal Mass Dynamics login. No API key to copy or store.
  3. Check it works. Paste this in: *"Run a health check on Mass Dynamics."* If it comes back, you are connected.

Not listed does not mean it will not work. Any AI tool that lets you add a custom MCP server by URL can connect. This list is what we have run and tested ourselves.

Setup steps by tool

Claude Desktop

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector and paste the server URL.
  3. Choose OAuth when it asks how to authorize, then sign in.
  4. For uploads, open the connector's network access settings and allow *.amazonaws.com. Files go from your machine straight to storage rather than through the server. It works without this, just less smoothly.

Claude Code

  1. Add the server URL as an MCP server.
  2. Choose OAuth and sign in.
  3. Nothing to set up for network access. It asks at the moment it needs it.

Claude Cowork

  1. Download the plugin file. It is a small config file that carries the server URL, so there is nothing to type.
  2. Choose Add plugin and select the file you just downloaded.
  3. Sign in with your normal Mass Dynamics login.

Codex

  1. Add the server URL as an MCP server.
  2. Choose OAuth and sign in. No additional configuration.

ChatGPT - work or business

Do this once in a browser. Once it is set up it is available in the desktop app too.

  1. Open your workspace settings, then Apps.
  2. Choose Create, and turn developer mode on.
  3. Enter the server URL and choose OAuth for authentication.
  4. Go to plugins and click the plugin you just made.
  5. Enable all actions. Skip this and it will connect but not be able to do anything.

ChatGPT asks permission at the point of upload and handles network access for you, so there is nothing to allow in advance.

ChatGPT - personal

It connects, however network access is blocked on personal accounts and it gets confused, causing issues with uploads. If you have a work or business license, use that instead.

  1. Turn developer mode on.
  2. Go to plugins, then Add new plugin.
  3. Enter the server URL and choose OAuth for authentication.
  4. Sign in.

Copilot Studio

This route means building an agent rather than adding a connector, so it is likely a job your systems admin may need to do, rather than a two-minute setup.

  1. Create an agent.
  2. Add Mass Dynamics as a tool, using the server URL and OAuth.
  3. Publish the agent.

Adding Mass Dynamics as a Microsoft 365 connector, so it appears in Copilot without building an agent, is not working yet.

Try these prompts first

  1. Tell me what you can do with Mass Dynamics.
  2. Upload the files in this folder to Mass Dynamics. Before you create anything, show me the sample names and conditions you worked out, and where you got them from.
  3. Build a dataset from that upload and set the metadata. Ask me if anything is ambiguous rather than guessing.
  4. Normalize it, then run a pairwise comparison between treated and control.
  5. That upload failed. Work out why and fix it.

One thing worth checking every time

When you upload, your AI tool works out the sample names and conditions, often from your file names. It will usually ask you to confirm. Confirm it properly. An experiment design can pass every validation rule and still not be the comparison you meant, and the analysis on top of it will be wrong with it. Prompt 2 is written to make it show its working first.
